“Revel” Magazine is a collaborative project comprising three issues, each highlighting a specific culture’s traditions and festivals. Volume 01 focuses on Germany, exploring practices such as Christmas markets, gothic folklore, and how to make a good pretzel. “Revel” aims to both inform and invite whimsy and curiosity, doing so by utilizing a central unbreakable structure with expressive imagery, type, and interactive elements throughout for readers to explore.

As with most proper design projects, this one began with pencil and paper. The topic and masthead were brainstormed and decided before anything else—this alone involved over at least 50 iterations. After a base grid and typographic hierarchy for the entire publication was established, the magazine content was ideated and divided into “departments”. From there, each spread went through thorough editing and revision before being pieced together into one cohesive magazine.
